And I thought the auction started with a No reserve price anyway.

I've no idea. Only that he made them over 22 years. Owen Y might know how many he could make each year. Slow reply sorry. That's a good Q, I've pondered this myself. Dave made the Auras in small batches, maybe 2-5 or 6 at a time, but I'm not sure - he had to pay for platter castings to be made, heat treatment, materials generally. AURAs were made from around 1984 until 2006 (when Dave passed away). In the early days, I imagine that there would not have been significant numbers. Demand would have been quite high however around the time of Dick Olsher's Stereophile review in 1990 & USA distribution being handled by Space & Time. Dave & Trudy then moved to Brisbane for a few of years (~1990-92) & I know that Dave did not entirely enjoy the pressure of having an Australian distributor at that time (ie. there were plenty of orders coming in). After moving back to Auckland, they set about building a new house in Albany & being Dave, a lot of it was hands-on (together with his children I imagine) & AURA production would have been on hold from mid 90s until 1999 house completion. So.... there might been 15+ years of AURA 'production' (also experimentation / R & D). I'm guessing, 80 to 150 AURAs? Maybe 200 on the outside.

Dammit if I had seen that I would have bought it - at least $1000 less than its worth

Worth is a funny word...it just represents what people are prepared to shell out on the day. Im sure we have all tried selling items for more than people are prepared to pay. Its a buyers market for pretty much everything these days and Im sure it will become more so with the current situation we all find ourselves in. I hope everyone here is safe and well.

I'm told (by younger generation kids) that 'lockdown' is a v good time to sell stuff, because, I suppose, more punters are at home with free time & online. (Evidenced here by the amount of Tr Me stuff coming & going here in our household ) But yes, of course, something is only worth what you can actually get for it.

mmmmm....Well it was my Musical Fidelity A370. A monster of an amp Very cool (well, probably pretty warm!). I’ve always wanted to hear one of those big MFs, having really enjoyed owning a couple of the smaller ones from that era (A1, A100).
Their larger format amps must’ve been few & far between in NZ!? I am also a fan of them (MF A370's) and so now have 3 of them doing surround sound duty. They need about an hour to warm up properly. Can be a bit brittle at times, but I still love them to bits.

Triple dip! Wow, that’s quite a collection. It must get nice & cosy on a winter’s day. Oh, and welcome aardvark - your first post, I see. 😀

Thanks for the welcome. They are in my office but they do heat the whole room so cant close the door. A mixture of MK1, MK2 and even a P270, but all rebuilt to be internally identical. The P270 is actually a full A370 but as has smaller heat sinks can run a bit warm.

wow. They would have been extremely exotic. I have only heard about the big monoblocks. Has anyone out there got any of them? Would love to hear.
