"I don’t really think the market wants honest reviewers as a selling tool to get people buying what is really good. It’s a dishonest industry and that doesn’t sit well for me when it’s a journo pursuit and I consider myself honest in the pursuit. So I can’t review products as good when I know they are average or poor, like John Darko, or many magazines who never make comparisons or tell you what they really think, as no real ‘reviewing’ is going on, which is another point;"
Ouch...

It's sad and I'm not surprised. I've given up reading reviewers, believing they are to some degree in thrall.
Salvatore is another like Simon, with a similar axe to grind. Of course there is Srajan Ebaen of 6moons who sides with Simon on being paid for the work they do.
Which is why sites like this thrive, I'd prefer to ask (as I did for my Cartridge adventure) here than read a biased/poor review.

And lets remember people money makes the world go round!! I can think of a particular wine reviewer here in NZ who charges for his review. Is that a bad thing..? Clearly not. Its what he does. He may think a particular wine is very good..I may not! He also may like brussel sprouts.. I do not!..In fact Id rather watch re runs of Shortland Street for 6 months! Personally I like John Darkos reviews. He comes across as a down to earth genuine sort of a bloke. There are no absolutes when it comes to reviewing audio gear. One item may sound good in someones rooms and junk in another. Its ALL about synergy! I do think reviews have a place especially in todays enviroment of the internetness, shops with no stock and manufacturers dealing direct.

wrong man in the wrong business I think . He was getting dumped on for his attitude over on the Hoffman site and he made the mistake of joining and trying to argue his case. Wasn't going well for him.

Yep, it looks like a train-wreck unfolding, in slow motion, in every respect. Hoping Simon Price has appropriate support, given his mental health is causing risk. (and how would we know or not? e.g. is Simon Price even a real dude?)

Despite this poor matey’s troubles, I do have some alignment with his comments on diminishing returns, esp. the stratospheric cost of the most exotic gear. In the real audio world, most punters cannot afford that level of indulgence. Doesn’t stop the envy factor tho’ [who wouldn’t want a Ferrari GT250 in their garage? - to use an auto comparison] Audio nirvana IS within reach of us all: level 1: single malts - taken to your capacity (with your existing system) level 2: an excellent headphone system level 3: level 1 + level 2 combined level 4: chemical assistance. I believe, for a non-stratospheric investment, a small tab taken leads to experiencing kaleidoscopic, limitless, euphoric sound, including hitherto undiscovered supersonic and subsonic frequencies via taste, smell, sight, feel and hearing, even supernaturally, through every fibre of ones being; and the sound can exit OUT your ears… and all this from a battery powered cassette player with a 2” full range driver… haha the hippies had it sussed after all? as Neil said… Oh wow man! sooo…COSMIC! E&OE, without prejudice, caveat emptor…etc

High end hifi could be compared with high end watches. All watches show the time correctly, but one can choose an appropriate style with a particular expression of vanity. “I considered all toil and all achievement and saw that it comes from rivalry between man and man. This too is emptiness and chasing the wind. Better one hand full and peace of mind than both fists full and toil that is chasing the wind.” (Ecclesiastes 4-4) Sorry to get all religious on you but there is some great stuff about this in Ecclesiastes!

From 13th note hifi reviews.
Just wanted to say that I don’t recognise these URL’s to my Website and it’s possible they could have been faked from links posted elsewhere. . I did write a few articles when considering giving up, but not to the extent the article title suggests.
