Is there anyone in Auckland who could offer a vacuum tube (aka electronic valve) testing service (life/strength & gas/short/faults) for a suitable fee? Thanks.

Thanks Citroën, good tip. I have bought some tubes from Paul in the past, I wasn’t sure if he was still active. Will drop him a note now.

Must admit I haven't had any contact with him for quite some time. So not sure if he is still active. Good luck!

Yep. Paul was very kind and able to test a dozen of my spare 6CA7 / EL34 tubes for faults (gas & shorts) and general strength (good / strong or fail). We didn’t take note of any other readings for transconductance etc.
My observations about tube testing are similar to those expressed in the other recent thread of the same name elsewhere on this site. That is, it seems like there’s a bit of an “art” (rather than “pure science”) to using the older testing machines.
