No, it’s completely unreasonably priced... but I have to at least be shown to be making an effort at getting rid of some gear! 😜
But seriously, I will be sad to see it go. It’s easily my longest serving piece of gear.

No, it’s completely unreasonably priced... LOL I think I need an independent opinion.

Start price looks v attractive to me Check out Audio Classics for USA prices - bearing in mind grade/condition & the fact that such tuners are more plentiful in USA. Note that not all MR71s have the McIntosh wood case (into which the tuner slides in & locks, using the rather cool McIntosh Panloc feature). I believe that this MR71 was imported & set-up by the same 'expert', enthusiast & an experienced (recently retired) technician, who imported also the MR71 that I have - and who I'm sure will always try to be helpful for service, spares & advice. Disclaimer: This is not an entirely unbiased opinion

That’s right Owen, thanks for the comments. I think we bought our Mac tuners around the same time from the same “expert”, in the mid-90s.
Citroen, if you are properly keen - send me a PM, maybe we can work something out? I figure I probably still owe you one after that ‘3009 incident! 😬

Less than I paid for mine & in similar, possibly better, condition. Disappointed that I won't be able to pester you with maintenance tips & upkeep advice

Yes, sold and hand delivered to a fellow tuner enthusiast this morning. I also sold him my Naim NAT-101 about 5 years ago. The McIntosh will join his Naim, Scott & Revox.
He held a nice collection (hoard?) of other classic Tube & solid state gear from: McIntosh, Spendor, Altec, Garrard, Rola, Luxman as well as a few modern classics like Audio Note, Audio Research, Sophia Electric, Mapletree and (way) more besides. Always great to meet fellow ‘fools. 🤓

I feel that this is someone I must have encountered myself in the past.

Did/does he work at a hifi store?

Nah... Just a proper hifi enthusiast based on the north shore of auckland, who doesn’t happen to drive. He had a Mapletree preamp and dual monos, from what I could glean.

Hi cooksferry, I really enjoyed your Mapletree headphone amp with Grado GS1000s - a fantastic match. Thanks so much for the sale - it was much loved. I discovered Stax more recently and now most definitely consider myself a Stax fan too.

Hi cooksferry, I really enjoyed your Mapletree headphone amp with Grado GS1000s - a fantastic match. Thanks so much for the sale - it was much loved. I discovered Stax more recently and now most definitely consider myself a Stax fan too. It was/is a nice little amp and a bit different with the magic eye tube. Liked the older Mapletree design back then, sort of late 50s DIY on the outside. Nothing too fancy or superfluous. Only phones I really got the magic eye to display properly with was the HD650 Sens which needed a bigger twist on the knob that my Grado RS1s. To work with the RS1 I needed around 12 on the dial which would have blown my ears to pieces. I had a lot of fun sourcing NOS 5751 tubes for it and probably got a bit carried away there but prices weren't too bad 15 years ago. Talking to Foveaux yesterday and he's still using his Mapletree head and pre amps day to day . Always found Lloyd Peppard (Mapletree) great to deal with and his line router has been in my system for around 15 years. He also made me to order a nice little mono/stereo switch unit as well.

I have sold 'John' quite a bit of stuff over the years including a Scott tuner, Ecofan pre, power and tweeter amps and I managed to locate a couple of power amps that he had bought from Greg Cooney (to whom I also sold a massive Ecofan OTL) three years previously, but had failed to pick up. He also bought some Pye mono-blocks off Greg and among other thangs has a pair of AN 300B mono-blocks and Tannoy Westministers. John doesn't drive and runs a coffee bar in the East Coast Bays. Be comforted that he doesn't send his stuff back to China!
