No picture of top plate, looks to be genuine 201b model. I have asked for a picture of the top plate without the platter...

Shame about that!
They added a picture as requested. It's very clean looking. Not going to buy it... although sorely tempted as that would complete my collection of Garrard decks.

The seller does sell the odd great item, it is just that a member of this forum bought a Lenco75 from this seller some time ago, and it was found not to match the sellers description. The plinth, made by the seller, and the arm bearings were not good. Caveat emptor.

He buys under one name and sells under another. I sold him an old pioneer deck with shot arm bearings (disclosed as not working). He replinthed it and sold it on. As a matter of curiosity I asked him how he fixed the arm bearings and he said he didnt ! I can only assume that he got it to work at all by cranking up the VTA.

what name does he buy under ? I knew I had written his buyer name somewhere, just found it on one of my posts re a Yamaha YP-400 turntable (that Graham repaired for me). I bought it off tm and Istraka was the underbidder.

At least this seller understands the importance of providing fairly decent, well-lit pics. I also quite fancy his 80’s Denon Pre-Power set, in champagne & wood finish with the big VU meters. From what I have read online, the power amp is said to be unstable with loudspeakers less than 8 ohm impedance. The specs quoted on Hifi engine seem to confirm that by quoting suitable for speakers 8 to 16 ohm. I was slightly interested until I read that. never heard JBL spkrs, so cant comment re your other question.

Ok, thanks. Good to be aware of thIs apparent limitation. Still, they are undeniably pretty to look at! 🤓

if you want a denon power amp to drive isobariks, apogees and other tricky loads get some poa-4400 or poa-s1 monos.

Interesting circuitry in the Denon POA-1500 poweramp. There are a few mistakes on the schematic, but the most notable feature is the use of an opamp to control the output transistors with nested negative feedback instead of global NFB. The NJM082 of the 1980s would be better changed to an OPA2134 as it doesn’t suffer the rail to rail instability and phase reversal of the old NJM part, and has lower distortion. Speaking of Denon poweramps, if anyone’s interested my (standard) Denon POA-4400A monoblocks are sitting here doing nothing and could be moved on. They are a good, dynamic amp with slightly sweeter top end than their bigger brother POA-6600A, and monoblocks make the sound nice and open. (They are here in the UK but sending them back to NZ shouldn’t cost too much!)

(They are here in the UK but sending them back to NZ shouldn’t cost too much!) Typical! You wait weeks for a bus to come, and then it starts pouring with rain and a big double-decker bus drives right by!!! I recently picked up a lightly modified Quad 909; with the quadlink board removed (as per your previous comments) and the input sensitivity reduced for a standard preamp output. It's just off getting a re-cap and a bit of "once-over" from a local service tech, before being put to service under a heavy & awkward load. I'll be sure to post a few pics when it is up & errr... running. If it wasn't for this recent acquisition (and a few others beside!), I would have been dead keen on your 4400A monos! They would have been ideally suited, and even come with a hearty recommendation from michaelw (and Ken Kessler, from memory)! I should really send you a PM to get a few more details, just in case it doesn't work out with me & the '909... stand by. I know the 4-series was the sweet spot in the range, with the 6-series being thought of (in the 'press, at least) as a bit dry & boring sounding. But I did always lust after that black pair of 6600A in the window of John Tanner's High St store in the early 90's. They certainly captured the imagination as a statement piece of kit. Importantly, I didn't realise the 4400A were also available in a champagne/wood finish! Yum!

only ever seen black 4400, no champagne or wood, not even in asia you never did say what this "heavy & awkward load" is...

I recall my mate in Melbs having some champagne 6600s years ago, not sure what happened to them though. I liked them, part of the reason for getting some 4400As later. I had both the 6600A and 4400A here at one stage, the 6600A was in for a speaker relay service and I own the 4400A so I decided to have a bit of a listening sesh. From memory the 6600A is a grunty beastie and you can fall in love with the ‘who’s boss’ sound, even if it is a little dirtier than the 4400A. But sometimes you just want a little bit more finesse and the 4400A has it’s bigger brother beaten on string tone and overall togetherness. Not that the 6600A can’t do finesse, it’s just that I ended up liking the 4400A’s presentation better, more like a well worn favourite shoe than a tramping boot. The scenery is the same but your feet get hotter in the boots. You just might end up twisting your ankle on the rockier bits in shoes though.

Good luck with the Quad 909, it will be nice with the Quadlink board not in the signal path to reduce that slight metallic sheen of the standard amp.
