According to John DARKO:
In 2020, a more functional streaming DAC/amplifier will offer:
1) Roon Readiness
2) Spotify Connect
3) Chromecast Built-in (for SoundCloud, Mixcloud, Pandora etc.)
DARKO calls the above the 'holy trinity' - for the 'music-first audiophile' who is interested in streaming new music content direct from bands or producers (many who are not signed to a major label), will find platforms such as Soundcloud, Bandcamp, essential.
However Soundcloud, etc is not enabled in ROON, the current leading music-management software of choice.
Using Bluetooth from your device is possible, but not optimal Hi-Fi quality.
Airplay is possible, but limits you to streaming THROUGH an Apple device (which must remain switched-on during streaming).
So, DARKO's solution is to utilise Spotify Connect via Chromecast - especially if it is already built-in to your chosen hi-fi system amplifier, such as the NAIM Uniti Atom.
