I have owned this for just over a year now and can safely say it is the best sounding MM phono pre I have ever owned. Reluctant sale, but the need for also using an MC cart has taken priority. Toyed with buying a SUT, but the topic seems to be a minefield of esoteric information, and good ones are astronomically priced.
So have bought a Perreaux Audiant VP3 MM/MC phono stage. It won’t sound quite as good, but will be more versatile. The mm and mc stages are separate and selectable via a front mounted switch, and there is also a mono switch. I can now set up both my turntables, and switch between them!
This particular PureAudio phono pre was a bench test prototype and was configured for MM only, although all dip switches remain active. I have used my Denon DL103R through it to good, not perfect, effect, due to that carts very low gain of .25. sounded just fine at moderate levels but hardened up when volume turned up to over 11 o’clock.
Gary advertised this as being exactly the same specs as the commercially available model, but with some hard wiring instead of everything being on. PCB.
when I bought it i was given the choice of colour for the casing, and chose silver.
.
i believe it is worth $1000 The commercially available one retails for $4100.
i will I’ll be in Auckland between 4-29 May, and if an Aucklander is interested we could arrange a contactless handover to suit. Or if further afield could arrange delivery by NZPost Couriers.
in original box and packing and with the documents that came with it. In perfect unmarked condition, looks new, from smoke free and child free home.
