A very sad loss,I always enjoyed his reviews as my own equipment preferences were very similar to his. RIP.

Whenever I had a Stereophile magazine in my hands, I first read the Letters pages, then turned to Art’s current article. His opinions were a breath of fresh air in what can be an over-hyped industry. He will surely be missed.
Have been searching for a copy of his recommendation in the 2019 R2D4, Donovan’s A Gift From a Flower to a Garden” since reading the article recently. Seems to be scarce.

That is terribly sad news. Like mentioned above, we seemed to share similar taste in gear. I had even bought a couple of valve amps based largely on his stereophile reviews of them.

Was shocked to read this this morning. There are some things you dont need to see at the start of the day. I first came across his writings in Listener, and always followed his columns in Stereophile with interest. Like MW I wasnt too fussed on his ongoing fascination with idler drives, Ortofon pickup heads and horn speakers, and would admit to never having bought a component based on his recommendation although I have bought LPs that he mentioned in his columns. Have also been enjoying his revinylization series of columns. Would have liked to have read more about his guitar collection though and until I read his obituary I hadnt realised he also wrote for Fretboard Journal.
Thanks Art.

Art was an amazing guy, so gracious when I visited him, and generous with his time and knowledge. A real gentleman. We used to chat occasionally, and I will miss his insights. On a facebook thread a couple of years ago I lamented that I only had a couple of issues of the Listener. He immediately messaged me and said he would send all the back issues he had on hand, which he did. He refused to take any money at all, despite the significant cost of sending them to me. A huge loss to the hifi world.

I too was shocked when I read the news yesterday. He was one of the better writers in the industry, and I will miss his monthly column as it was one of the few columns worth reading in the mag. R.I.P.

For those who don't know all about LISTENER magazine (myself included), this 2002 Art Dudley interview by Steve Rochlin (EnjoytheMusic.com) is enlightening about some of Art's feelings about LISTENER - which he (& his wife Janet) ran from 1994 for 5 years (plus another 3 years after Art sold it): Questions like: " Did you regret selling? " " Which are your favourites? " (LISTENER covers.)

Such a pitty, very talented writer, really thought provoking and engaging, clearly one of the reasons to buy Stereophile, RIP.

I see that STEREOPHILE have just published a LUXMAN CL-100 preamp review by Art - enjoy one of Art's last (possibly his last) component reviews.

Reading that review with the benefit of hindsight you could infer by his unusual lack of humour, that perhaps he wasnt well ?

I only occasionally read Art's work when he was alive. As a result of this thread, I've been quietly working my way through his Stereophile columns - insightful, enjoyable and I now appreciate why he was rated so highly. From his: Listening #153 Sep 3, 2015 Universal Tweak No.1: Put all of your source electronics gear on the same piece of furniture, ideally on the same surface. Universal Tweak No.2: Remove all spiked feet from your playback system and sell them for scrap. (Ditch the spikes and, in their place, adhere to the feet of your stands or to the bottoms of your speaker enclosures a set of nice, thick, self-adhesive felt pads.) Universal Tweak No.3: Buy a single, simple, decent-quality power strip, and plug into it every product in your system. Anyone tried all these together? improvements heard?

Tweak 3 I've never heard of as being recommended.
My gear is mainly on the floor, so mostly Tweak 1 "tick".
Spikes on Gliders, so half of tweak 2. I guess he was a fan of decoupling.
