Right, getting ready for some of those times when I can't use my speakers, I've bought an Arcam rHead headphone amp.
At present I have a Koss Pro/4AAA headphone I've had since new. Sounds good but seems to have hardly any bass,(well, compared to my system with REL Strata 3 anyhow!)
Any suggestions for a not too expensive headphone.Probably closed in would be best.Mainly listen to classical music with the odd stint of rock. Thanks.

Well, any comments on how the Sennheiser HD 650 compares to my Koss Pro 4AAA's. Please.

Not to worry. With my wife's approval I've bought the Sennheiser HD 660 S from PBTech. I think my 70th coming up might have helped. And Neil Diamond who my wife doesn't like!!!
Have found the closed back Koss to hot to wear for long. And I can't hear a certain person talking to me!!

The HD660S is regarded by some reviewers as an advancement over the HD650, or at least it's Sennheiser's modern interpretation of the earlier classic design. Let us know your impressions, when you can.

Must be. No doubt there is a new and improved version coming soon, or already available. But that doesn't make the current model any worse does it?
Tempted to grab one myself!

The HD660S is regarded by some reviewers as an advancement over the HD650, or at least it's Sennheiser's modern interpretation of the earlier classic design. Let us know your impressions, when you can. Have to say they're a lot better than my old Koss. Very light, comfortable and easy on the head for a long time, and great for going to sleep with! Just been comparing them to my Image 412/2's and tonally they're very similar, which is very pleasing to me.
Not the same kick bottom bass of course and the Image's are brighter on top and a bit edgier, but that's with a different amp of course. So I don't get the reviews that say the 660 is bright. I'm pleased they're not bright, being so close to my ears.
All in all I'm glad I decided to pay for a decent pair of new headphones, after bidding on a 2 year old second hand pair which got up near the new price from PBTech. And I can listen to my sounds while my wife sits 2 seats away listening to her library audio book on her phone.

neilsan - great, that should be useful info for anyone looking into the Senns. Pleased to hear that the SS Arcam rHead amp appears to match well with the Senns - the HD 650 is not known for strong or punchy bass (with most h/ph amps).
