Haven’t been contributing much lately, due to preoccupation with a health issue.
Perhaps with much of our focus on the equipment and how it sounds, we can lose sight of the tool that brings the sound altogether - our body, especially our ears.
Have had a health scare, a small lump on upper right cheek turned out to be a cancer involving the R parotid (salivary) gland, and affecting the lymph nodes in front of the R ear. By the time I had 7 hours in surgery last Tuesday the tumour had aggressively grown to near the size of a pool ball.
Tumour , parotid gland and a significant part of my neck containing lymph nodes have been removed.
Woke up with diminished hearing in R ear today, and surgeon advised, he had to given me a bit of a face lift and re-routed my R ear canal! Said was probably swollen, should return to normal, but not guaranteed!
4 days into a projected 7 day Stay in hospital, and this morning took me to ENT clinic where had R ear suctioned out - it contained a lot of dried blood and wax. Hearing a bit better now, just have to wait for swelling to go down and hopefully my ability to listen to music will not be dramatically affected.
