I first read Herb when he was a columnist for the legendary & esoteric, 1990s, triode-horn publication 'Sound Practices', now ensconced in the mainstream with John Atkinson's Stereophile. This is a nice video profile of Herb by Stereophile's Jana Dagdagan (more on Jana later) - but plenty of Herb persona projected here & late-winter/early-spring Brooklyn NYC context. Well worth a watch: Article here: www.stereophile.com/content/reviewer-video-profile-herb-reichert#DSOPAMo6R68Qkhgc.97

I used to like Listener. Think I still have an old copy about someplace.

ha i was still a casual buyer until last year. local bookshop with any decent range of print mags is on its last legs - many titles like stereophile, tas - no longer make it to palmy. stopped buying hifi snooze this year. most of the mags are available online if you know where to look

HFNRR used to be my favourite. Subscribed to TAS. Gave up, then subscribed to Sound Practices, bought every issue in its short existence. Somehow acquired a huge stack of Stereophile.

HERB REICHERT is one of the more interesting 'journalists' in audio. He has a fine arts background, he has built tube amplifiers, is an enthusiast for of triodes & horn-speakers & generally not a guy who feels any need to follow convention. Seemingly also, a nice dude to boot... This is an interview with Herb Reichert that Cynthia, The AUDIO BELLE, conducted at AXPONA last year: Cynthia showcases her Spanish guitar skill - nothing wrong with that either. (Warning: Typical noisy audio show envirnonment.)

Its what he says: he is looking at writing a good “story” that can be read independently of the gear, that’s why his writing is interesting!
