Auckland Arts Fesival 2020: The programme was released around 3 wks ago. I haven't had a thorough peruse as yet, but I was excited to see Weyes Blood triple-billed with NZ musicians Aldous Harding & Purple Pilgrims on the 14th. As some may know, Weyes Blood (real name: Natalie Mering), is variously described as 'chamber pop', 'psychedloc folk'. Her current, 4th album 'Titanic Rising' has been critically acclaimed as contender for indie album of the year. " A spellbinding performer and songwriter whose storytelling is “steeped in the magic stuff of fantasies and daydreams” (NPR), Mering’s sound evokes artists as varied as the Kinks, Enya, Hoagy Carmichael, Brian Eno and Joni Mitchell. An enchanting, buzzworthy talent. " This concert will be at the Town Hall, but I'm gutted as it looks like standing-only & I think I'm am beyond the age when I can stand up in a concert for 3-1/2 hours

Snow White was very good. Highly enjoyed the Mahler, (despite not being a live performance) and they chose excerpts that matched the dance very well, and included some of my favourite movements. The highlight for me was the pas de deux with a "sleeping" Snow White, ironically half of which was without soundtrack/music. A little disappointed in the costumes, apart from the wicked step Mum's dominatrix like outfit and Snow White's final gorgeous milky gown. And the advertised semi-nudity was hard to spot!

Nothing spectacular.
The Wall, with vertical dancing Seven Dwarves was entertaining.

OK. I've found modern ballet sets generally to be very very good, memorable often. Those that I've seen. I enjoy ballet a lot, music, dance, the visuals. Was disappointed to miss this one.

This was actually my first live classical ballet performance, and so for that reason alone was very memorable.
I usually gravitate towards more contemporary dance. Black Grace being a local favourite, as in the upcoming Verses (hopefully 29th if its not a banned event!).
