This new turntable (& tonearm) is produced by Onkk Limited UK, a design by Paul Beckett, a Horologist (clock-maker) by profession.
Key features are:
- Motor - Direct Drive, 'slot-less' with 'sine-drive' & optical-sensor feedback, DSP speed control, software adjustable torque control (to suit music or personal taste).
- Plinth - cast aluminium, mineral-loaded resin filled
- Bearing - fully Technox 2000 ('ceramic-steel'), extra-long bearing
- Platter - 7075 aluminium, tungsten-carbide peripheral mass-loaded, dished top surface, mat-less
- Tonearm - collet-clamped to plinth
- Resonance damping under platter & around main bearing
- Suspension - 'pistonic linear bearing' spring isolation system
- 33/45/78 rpm
Below, Steve Guttenberg talks to Onkk's eccentric but genial founder, Paul Beckett, about the background & design philosophy of the Onkk Cue turntable.
