No doubt due to the new GST changes beginning Dec 1.
" We are unable to ship non-digital items to New Zealand shipping addresses. Please choose a shipping address that is not in New Zealand to proceed. Some restrictions may still apply depending on the item."
I'm assuming that my pre-orders will be cancelled. Orders not yet despatched are still active in the system.
Amazon US still shipping to NZ currently. Hopefully they won't follow UK and close their doors to NZ. They stopped shipping to AU when they made their changes but at least they had their on Amazon.AU store to buy from.

bastards ! use youshop ?
the internet was supposed to open up global boundaries not shut them down

The trouble with YouShop is that the repackage "to save costs" by volume. But in doing so they can lose the packaging essential to ensure corner free damage. Also, more handling, more depots, more transit points, people chucking your package about.
They might open up Amazon AU to us.

maybe but i used amazon uk when i wanted a specific uk version of music or movie, no guarantee of source from amazon aus.

Indeed!
Bought about by the recent GST changes. I suppose the whole idea is to buy local, and support the local economy/retailers, make it an even playing field, keep the bricks and mortar stores alive etc.

Youshop - I've never had my parcel 'repackaged' by them. Have you had vinyl records repackaged? Also, do USA suppliers not now mostly use those glue-tabbed 'frustration free' cardboard record mailers?
|
Post by Citroen on Nov 20, 2019 17:08:10 GMT 12
Yep.
And no, not all retailers use LP mailers.
I've had to get replacement covers sent due to youshop repackaging.

i've had replacement covers and replacement records

Which is exactly why I'm not thrilled to use Youshop for records.

Plus you have to lay gst on the cost of youshop packaging and delivery charges!

Plus side is that the taxable limit is raised to $1000 before duty and Biosecurity fees are incurred.

That’s a shame. If you need something specific I might be able to send it to you. ColShop? But don’t want to do this too often, it’s already quite busy here!

I spent over half an hour yesterday morning on live chat with an Amazon rep trying to get a sensible answer as to why we'd suddenly been cut off but it was like trying catch mercury in a fishing net. There's a degree of arrogance on Amazon's behalf in not putting out any sort of announcement as to why we're suddenly shut out. Like others I'm guessing that it has something to do with the new GST rules but it seems odd that we can still use Amazon.com with their global shipping and not the other sites. Since my purchases are winding down and have been few and far this year it's not going to have a great personal affect on me but I'm glad that I managed to get my order away for the big Gene Clark box set before this happened. For mainstream releases I'll probably look to sites like Import Cds, CD Japan and Juno Records in the UK, all have given me good service in the past. A couple of days ago picked up the Stones Let It Bleed 50th deluxe from Import cds and using their current discount promo it was cheaper than Amazon and with faster shipping.
Using Youshop for UK purchases is an option but since it's regarded as a domestic purchase you do loose the VAT deduction which could be reasonably substantial on more expensive items.
Interesting times.

Yes VAT here is a high 20%. But 0% for food.

Yes, strange that ALL the other Amazon sites are now blocked except for the US site.

I find it interesting that there's been nothing about this shutdown in the media that I can find or nothing from Amazon. Did a trial run yesterday with a newly announced 15lp set based on radio plays of the Discworld books on Amazon.com. It threw up an estimated pre pay tax of NZ$140. Today the price on the set has dropped and there's no tax. There's going to be a fair amount of suck and see coming up.
Just as a side note for anyone into books, I used to get quite a few 2nd hand items via Amazon UK from Better World Books. They do have their own website with over 2 million books listed and it appears shipping to NZ is 2 UK pounds. Delivery can be slow(5 weeks approx) but price is good and condition of the books has to this date been very good.

Have Amazon set up a distribution centre in nz? Had a 3 cd set on back order since May (Fleetwood MAC, before the beginning) arrived today less than 5 days after being notified order on its way.
Arrived today in a Fastways package, nz does not feature in the address label, and return address given as Golden State FC LLC, 118 Hugo Johnston Drive, Penrose, which happens to be Fastways main Depot.
Interesting

Amazon.co.nz is quite specific about GST being the reason, "Due to Australian and New Zealand GST law, we are currently unable to ship physical items from Amazon.co.uk to New Zealand or Australian shipping addresses. Please check if Amazon.com.au or Amazon.com sells the item you would like to purchase, or choose a delivery address that is not in New Zealand or Australia to proceed with placing an order."

Still not sure why we can still use .com but not the rest as before. The only possible answer that I can arrive at is that all the other European sites and Japan removed their local sales tax before shipping to us unlike the USA and maybe the process of removing one tax and adding another is just a bridge too far. In the mean time other sites like Import CDs continue to happily take my money. Anyone using Import Cds there is a promo to save 10% on an order and doesn't seem dependent on the amount of the order. Use TENOFF at checkout. My order of the Rolling Stones Let It Bleed 50th deluxe set arrived yesterday from ICDs, freight was a bit higher than Amazon but shipped Fedex and here in five days safely.

Amazon said somewhere recently that the UK site is just not ready to collect GST yet. The USA was set up in time for the transition.

i read that too.
amazon are just playing silly buggers.
they are the leaders in online sales systems, a few adjustments to collect nz gst should be a doodle for them to implement... if they wanted to.

Now how do we get a tax invoice for the transaction so that we can keep a record for GST purposes?

Seems a lot of overseas sellers are switched onto charging gst. Ordered a book from World of Books a couple of days ago and got charged. They're a huge 2nd hand seller(million plus books,) that I used to access via Amazon Uk. If they can take off vat and add gst can't see what Amazon's problem is.
