Reading Mr Fremmers Im not understanding what the copied phrase means.. Hes clearly well versed with the English language and writes a review I sometimes struggled with to be totally honest.. Must be a hard job thinking of new and interesting terms and phrases for audio kit I dear say.. Im just interested in the meaning of the below. Maybe its cryptic and Im missing the boat here..? I think he is referring to the relaxed nature of the sound. To my ear it delivers a performance that you can just relax into not one that is going to jump out at you you with zing and wallop. The other reviews linked from our website should be read also to get a complete perspective. Also... The big capacitors he refers to as the sound altering riaa capacitors... They are actually large polypropylene power supply decoupling parts. The riaa caps are much smaller polystyrene. All the signal circuitry is discrete, with 2sk170 jfets used at the input. (now highly sought after unobtainium) For those who worry about such things the ics are used in control and logic circuits.

Haha, ...“stiffen the ride” ...sounds like code for suggesting other components 'add' character/sonic excitement? (that shouldn't be there?) He does say in summary: "...its ability to get out of the way and make you forget it’s there. That’s about as high a complement as can be paid to any audio component." That'd do me. I've only briefly heard a Vinyl - exemplary, in every sense. MichaelW (and others) has one? and can reassure you...

"stiffen the ride" is akin to the car "enthusiast" who chops his springs and bangs on the firmest dampers, the thickest anti-roll bars to his car and thinks it "handles".
in hi-fi it's trying to add more of everything to the sound, more bass, more dynamics, sharper imaging, bigger soundstage etc. often all it does is produce an incoherent, fatiguing mess that further separates music from listener.
the Vinyl is not that sort of component, it has a finely balanced sound that draws the listener in, detailed but not distracting.
it just sounds like music, can't ask for more than that.
ps... is there a new version soon ?

Finally have music back! Firstly my prototype MM PA Vinyl died, and had to go back to GaryM to remedy, then the MC phono section on my Plinius 8150 decided to go out in sympathy. Had the Plinius fixed locally (Searles in Whangarei). So was forced to use my old Denon 3806 which had a fairly basic MM input as a gap filler.
Had Plinius back for a few weeks and was using my Denon DL103R with it, with only middling performance. Sounded like music, but lacked depth and dynamics.
Got the PA Vinyl back today, after about 1 and a half sides it got into the groove and I had music again. Using it with my Yamaha YP-D9 DD TT and Ortofon 2M Black.
Re Mr Fremers review cited above, all I can say he should look to the rest of his system! Lacking bass and extended treble, baloney! My system isn’t a patch on his - TT and cart as above, into the PA Vinyl, thence to the Plinius 8150 (which is renowned for it’s full bass), into my rejuvenated KEF Reference 104/2 spkrs. Cables are mid range MIT from phono Pre to amp, and a fairly up market set of spkr cables favoured by Naim users (bought so long ago I can’t remember the brand).
Will have to play all my recent LP purchases again to find out what they are really like. This afternoon listened to The Eagles, Best Of,; Orange Mandolin, Blindfaller; and an old favourite recently US cleaned. The Big Easy soundtrack. Last played it with my old system - Linn LP12, Ittok LV11, AT 0C9, Plinius Jarrah and Mission 753s. I remember an exciting performance. Recently played with the DL103R, it had rhythm but no substance and lacked dynamics. Now, woo hoo, everything is there, the exciting zydeco sound, lots of bass, clean treble and toe tapping mid. At the end of one track someone loudly exclaimed “yeah” and I found myself f looking around the room to see who it was!
I found myself turning the volume up, it was so clean it didn’t feel loud, but when I left the room I thought, wow, that’s loud! Just as well my housemate is away.
Would love to hear the MC version of the PA Vinyl, but on my budget will have to be satisfied with a SUT to suit the 103R - a purchase I hope to make sometime next year.

No idea how the PA Vinyl sounds but if it gives anyone the obvious pleasure John has, it must be a good thing!
Great result and maybe one day I'll be able to afford to listen to one.
