(This is WILT at the moment but I thought it might be worthwhile opening a Mozart thread...) It took me a while to nab a set of Perahia-Mozart concertoes & finally working my way through them. Will compare with Brendel, Barenboim. I wish I had more than just one Mitsuko Uchida LP on vinyl. Pure joy. Anyone else still into Mozart (digital or on vinyl)?

Have a large collection of Mozart on LP - enough to fill almost two plastic cubes! Haven’t listened to any for a while. Must sort through them and start listening. Love his small ensemble works.

Had a quick sort through my Mozart accumulation. Found the following piano concertos- 1. K.459 and K.488, Brendel, Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields, Marriner, 1972 Philips 6500 283, nz pressing; 2. K.467 and K.491, Casadesus, Cleveland Orch, Szell, 1973 CBS Masterworks SBR 475335, nz pressing; 3. K.466 and 467, Gulda, Wiener Philharmonic, Abbado, 1975 DGG 415 842-1, Germany pressing; 4. K.415 and K.453, Barenboim pianist & conductor, English Chamber Orch, 1968 HMV/EMI ASDM 2357, nz pressing.
Have just given them a clean in the ultrasonic RCM so will have a listen soon.
Also have a nice box set of 3 LPs, Karajan Conducts Mozart Wind Concertos - Bassoon K.191; Flute K.313; Clarinet K.622; Oboe K.314; Flue & Harp K.299; Sinfonia Concertante in E flat for oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon, K.297, 1972, HMV/EMI SLS 817, Gt Britain pressing.
Many others as well!

Being an amateur flautist... Oh, you will have a whole shelf of James Galway then?

I think I only have this one Galway on vinyl (but I see that I have at least two copies of it!)

The Brendel hasn't grabbed me yet (K466/No.20, a bit 'plonky', 'mechanical') but this Mitsuko Uchida No.20 is really nice - slowish, contemplative, serene, not 'muscular', but not lacking drama or dynamic variation & expresses the musical lines 'elegantly'. Don't pass up on Uchida if you spot one. The Philips '86 digital LP is also excellent sounding, it seems better, broader bandwidth, clearer focussed (but a little more distant piano perspective) than the Brendel '74 Philips box LP.

Just listened to K415, piano concerto # 13 in G, on 4 above. Barenboim in fine form, his piano playing lyrical and in places the notes “glistened” for want of a better word. The orchestra is well recorded, with some lovely very quiet moments. A very relaxing listen. Recommended. Will have to another listen to the Brendel (1 above) as I listened to it a week or so ago before getting my PA Vinyl back. I thought the recording was a little dull and uninvolving. But will have to give it the benefit of a 2nd chance with my refreshed set up, having got my Ortofon 2M Black back in action.

HMV/EMI most often are reliably decent sounding classical recordings in that era, IME.

As is usually the case, the box set issues are inferior sounding to the individual releases. They seem to always re-master for the box sets. Not by much, but clearly wider tonal bandwidth & dynamics less 'constrained', more impactful, on this LP release. The box vinyl sounds a little moe 'distant'. Of this '77 Perahia pairing of the popular #20/21, Peguin says - " These readings are second to none, and better than most. " You can readily appreciate why Mozart's 'flow' of inventiveness & melody is regarded as pure genius.
