Found the 11.11 sale page. The dac is at $249.99, presumably US$, so approx $395NZ - rapollo price seems OK!

Bought the Topping D30 second hand recently, with an ifi iPower wall plug supply.Any ideas if this new one would sound better? Compared the 30 with the CEC belt drive cd player dac in an expensive system. It was very close, perhaps a bit more warmth tonally with the CEC.Very hard to tell.
Watching the video it looks like you can adjust volume out to amp, bypassing a preamp. Correct? And does it come with a power supply?
Have taken the plunge and ordered one.The volume control is what has hooked me.Will be interesting to compare to my "passive" Clone Note.

Clearly dacs have been one item of the audio kit that have plummeted in price. If they are as good as Im reading here then I guess there will be many more sales going forward.. Gone are the days when a dac needed to be 10k to be great.

My D50s arrived this afternoon, many thanks to deano1974, and first impression is very good running from my AudioPhile linux NUC streamer. It will probably need a few more hours but listening to Yuja Wang playing Rachmaninov on Idagio is the best I’ve heard from the streamer until now.

For reference I'm powering mine with a zmi power bank qb820 ZMI are a quality brand, associated with Xiaomi (all of my phones in recent years have been Xiaomi) Here's a review... I bought mine via the "new" Dick Smith website. About $100. I can't see it listed now though. Take caution about sites like Aliexpress, you might get a fake.

Been listening to mine for a few days now.Impressions after using the D30.....easier to listen to loudly!!Not so bright sounding.
As garym suggested, I tried out a powerbank/emergency battery unit I've had in the van for the odd flat car battery, after I'd rigged up a transformer wall plug to power the D50S. (After I remembered I had one,the powerbank!)
Apart from the transformer ps buzzing away, I had the impression that the D50S with the powerbank was slightly less edgy, and I'm sticking with that! Can't be bothered comparing them again ,too much to listen to!
Picked up 2 Promate 10000mAh from my electrical supplier for $25 each, so will see how long they last.I don't think I need to spend any more on a dac for a while now.
Thanks to garym for posting here about the D50s and deano for supplying it.

Now stick those Les Davis devices under it... Perhaps that's why it sounds so good! Once I'm used to the sound I'll try removing them. Thanks Gary. Waiting to hear from deano if the Topping power supply for the D50 is available.Looks like these powerbanks discharge quite quickly. Any others finding that?
Well, the Promate powerbank only lasted for one day. Not good. Looks like I'll have to plug/unplug them every time I listen.
Have ordered a Topping power supply from deano.

Well I've had problems getting my DAC accepting a signal through the coax input. Tried various CD transports even my Sky decoder and different cables but nothing. Using optical no problem. Went back to Deano who loaned me a cable to try and approached Topping, they came back saying these are sensitive to jitter error. There is also some discussion on the Audio Science Review thread about them being picky on cable impedance. After a week of frustration and head scratching Deano got some new units in stock today and I swapped mine over, instant success! I bought this to use in a second system but am currently running it in my main system and it will be staying there for a while. Seriously, this easily be the best $400 I've spent on hifi gear. Trouble is after being mostly vinyl only for more than a few years I may have just jumped on a slippery slope...

Oh dear. His system cannot possibly allow the degree of analysis he has offered. Chromecast Audio? Spotify?

Do you think, Gary, that with mp3, even at high bitrate, one can't make useful musical / subjective evaluations or comparison of that nature? Or, do you think that he is just making stuff up?

I'm pretty sure you can make comparisons, but not of the subtle stuff he is talking about. His loudspeakers are very budget too. The difference between ok sound and a system that is really cranking is quite large. The more refined the easier it is to hear the subtle stuff. I'm sure I'm not saying anything new here... You sure can't evaluate imaging subtleties and tonality on a cheap system. He needs everything in the chain to be able to out resolve the item he is testing. The D50s isn't the last word in DACs by any means, but it is very good value for money.

Those LSA Statements appear to be US 3.5k, I thought it was the amp that was budget @ $600? Regardless it was reassuring to me for him to compare it to the Qutest reasonably well as it mirrored my recent my recent experience.
I jumped on the slippery slope and demoed the Qutest at home. While definitely better I couldn't justify the extra $2000 so back it went. It was suprising how good the Topping was in comparison given the price difference. Also tried a Luxman DA150 at the same time. Didn't like it at first but it grew on me, not enough though and that went back too.
Now looking at the Denafrips Ares you posted about Owen, R2R DAC may be the answer for me. I note Reference Audio are listed as a local supplier. Tried calling Peter a couple of times and no answer, sent an email and havent heard back, it was Xmas Eve though. Email to Vinshine Audio got a quick response but he is out of stock for a couple of weeks.
