Nephew Les attended, with a budding saxophonist son Jared, in Akld on 24 Aug.
With his orginal 8-piece Shift Left band.
(Also in Nelson 17 Aug.)
Les's brief report:
" Considering his recent throat cancer surgery, Haines was unsurprisingly a little croaky in voice. However, his playing was as good as ever, on flute, soprano & tenor sax. The first half set was from the Shift Left first album, & 2nd half a mixture of new & old. Band was really tight. Brother Joel played (electric) guitar. "
(I heard the whole band described as 'blistering'.)
Did anyone here attend either of these nights?
