What ! You mean you've never heard of them !!
I guess that's not surprising considering this is something I've cobbled together.
One of the criticisms of Grado headphones is that they are bloody uncomfortable to wear for any length of time. This mainly due to the rough foam covers, but not helped by the crappy looking headband with almost no padding provided.
So ---- I just happened to have some dead vintage Pioneer headphones with nice padded head band available. With a bit of creative tweaking I was able to install the Grado cups into the Pioneer holders and found it worked fine.
It was still a bit uncomfortable however on my sensitive audiophile ears so I resorted to what is referred to as the 'sock mod'. This simply involved providing a pair of donor socks ( preferably new, or at least washed) and cutting off the top 150mm.
These 'tubes' are then carefully rolled into a donut shape and with a bit of fiddling installed over the foam pads.
You could get quite creative and trendy with the sock colours but I went for conservative black.
They are much more comfortable to wear for extended listening.
Oh, I almost forgot, The name is derived from PIOneer, GRADo, and the socks came from HallenSTEINs.
Cheers
