There's not a lot of visual difference between the more affordable Technics SL-1200GR & the SL-1200G, but there is a approx US$2000 difference in price:
TECHNICS SL-1200GR - US$1700 approx.
TECHNICS SL-1200G - US$4000 approx
[Edit: approx prices]
The SL1200G is a 'from the ground-up redesign', according to AudioAppraisal.com:
- New twin-rotor DD motor, heavier, brass-topped, balanced platter & more precise motor control technology.
- New 4-layer plinth & zinc-slicone rubber feet, the whole TT weighing 18kg.
- A better detailed & specified, magnesium-tube tonearm, with azimuth adjustable headshell, high-precision bearings, phono RCA sockets at rear (also in the SL-1200GR, if you wish to swap phono cables).
- A quieter Switch Mode PSU & IEC power socket on TT rear (if you wish to swap power cables).
" The SL-1200G is notably quieter, offers much better imaging, far more detail and its sound is more uncoloured than that of the 1200GR. "
" The SL-1200G is a more ‘confident’ sounding turntable, more authoritative with a greater sense of scale and dimensionality... "
