This is a nice one to kick things of with, very cool indeed. Please add more as you find them, could be useful for those popping over to Japan Cheers Mark

Thanks Mark. Lovely video/link. Adds more intrigue to Japanese audio. If I strike it lucky, I have always said I'd visit the dedicated valve maestro manufacturers there; and these bars are now compulsory on that sojourn. I bet sound becomes better sake by sake... "...It's been 30 years, but I'm not quite done yet. There's still so much left to do. I can't see an end to it all..." Aha, so prophetic: that elusive journey! "...this listening movement..." Excellent concept.

Fantastic video, reminds me of the Japanese Jazz bars with vinyl setups (Murakami used to own one of those), so many reasons to visit Japan.

Tokyo Jazz Kissa: Vintage High Fidelity with #VINYLSee - RESISTOR magazine (1 Oct '20) Rafe Arnott explores the reasons & origins & culture of jazz 'kissa' cafes in Japan, with Katsumasa Kusunose, editor & publisher of new limited edition print magazine #VINYL. " The Japanese word KISSA means "have a cup of tea.” So JAZZ KISSA means "a place where you can listen to jazz while drinking tea. " " For many Japanese audiences in the ‘60s, listening to their live performances was a lofty dream. Instead, they wanted a jazz kissa where they could experience the music as if it were playing right in front of them. " " Also, records were very expensive at that time, and the price of one record was about 25 per cent of the weekly salary of a college-educated salaryman. That's why young people at the time went to Jazz Kissa, where they could listen to a lot of records for a cup of coffee. In this way, the opportunity to listen to jazz was so precious that places where people could listen to jazz were respected by young people. When they listened to jazz at a jazz kissa, they were able to naturally create an atmosphere where everyone listens with concentration. "

RESISTOR magazine reports that - Katsumasa Kusonose, editor and publisher of #VINYL magazine, is offering English language pre-orders of his previous Japanese-only publication Gateway to Jazz Kissa Vol. 1Seems reasonably priced at ¥1,000 + shipping. 56 pages & print/paper will probably be exemplary Japanese quality. In an interview with Kusonose, we learn that he decided to assist in fund-raising in February 2017, for the reconstruction of one of these bars, "Jazz Time Johnny". To boost donations, ¥500 of the ¥1000 list price of the book, published in November 2018, was donated & contributed to achieving the target amount of ¥8 million in September 2019.

Should have thought to ask here first but earlier today I ordered five copies of of Vol 2 (after enjoying Vol1). Three are spoken for but PM if you want one of the other two copies. (At cost, which I think will be around $25 with postage and NZ postage)
