'Rubberband', a previously unreleased album recorded in 1985 (before 'Tutu'), will be released now 34 years later, in September. As reported by Stereogum & Pitchfork & others recently, Rhino are scheduled to release 'Rubberband' on 6 Sept 2019. You can check out the story & some track samples.

i'm skeptical of these "never heard before" albums. there's usually a good reason they were unreleased.

Its soul funk jazz. Not brilliant but certainly its Davis. I'm not really a fan of his fusion period.
There have been attempts to "modernise" the sound but I'm not convinced. Nevertheless, its a solid sounding album 6.5/10. Well recorded, nice silent slabs of vinyl.

FWIW, Analog Planet's Malachi Lui was thoroughly umimpressed. In fact, the young chap was bold enough to nominate this release into his 2019's Top 10 Worst Albums list: " It’s a shame that his estate now exploits his name - Rubberband sadly sounds far more like a “Miles Davis’ Collaborators featuring special guest Miles Davis” album than a Miles Davis record. " ('Paradise' track sounds OK, funky enough to me.)

It's not a great album, but again it's something from Miles.
For me, something from him is better than nothing. And a damn sight better than 99.5% of the dross that gets released.
