Thinking about a new rack system for my room and one possible solution would place the turntable and possibly the phono stage next to a TV screen. Would any emissions from the TV be likely to cause feedback/hum through the vinyl setup. I do have properly shielded phono cables from both arms.

Potential big problem. Test and see is the only sensible advice.

Have a similar set up in my lounge, no issues at all. Planning on playing DSOTM and watching wizard of oz at the same time cooks ?

After doing a measure up at lunch time scrap that idea. Now onto plan B and some winter DIY.

One might suggest that Mary Jane is easier to find in Invercargill than Banana leaves ?

back in the old days of crt's interference with audio gear was guaranteed but it shouldn't be a problem with good quality modern flat panel screens.

If my TV is on and I simultaneously boot up my amp and turntable, I've sometimes been noticing that there is a temporary hiccup with the TV's sound.
Power surge strain?

Hmmm... a TT & TV should draw miniscule current, a fraction of 1 Amp probably. Maybe your amplifier has power surge at turn-on? What amplifier/s? If you don't already know, make a schedule of the power ccts in your house, in order to know: - what cct/s that the hi-fi is on. - what components are on ea cct, analogue & digital. - what, if any, other household devices are on these ccts, etc. - know what cct breakers or fuses on the Main Sw Bd relate to ea cct & label them.

Amp is McIntosh MC302. Maybe its interfering with the Skybox rather than the TV.
Likely power surge at turn on, as once its warmed up, if turned off and on it doesn't affect the TV/Sky box sound.
And as for the power ccts...I'd have no idea where to start or how to identify what plugs into what circuit!

I went around the house once, turning off one cct at a time & checking ea power point with a handheld device, such as a power drill or other handheld electric appliance. A PITA but do it just once.
