Hard to beat this turntable plinth. Garrard 401 / SME3012 in solid tree trunk.... A piece of chainsaw art that sub would appreciate

Lovely grain, but not sure about the bark being left on. In the Far North, the bark would be nice hiding spots for spiders, and attractive to mason bees! Can’t identify the timber, looks very dense and hard, restricting resonances? The slabs I have are macrocarpa, attractive grain, but quite soft, so not really suitable for a plinth.
However, will have a large Tasmanian Blackwood felled in the next couple of years. Not looking forward to slabbing it, as the very hard wood dulls the chain after each cut - hard work!

Tasmanian Blackwood is also used on Cole Clark acoustic guitars.

My 301 is mounted on macrocarpa slabs cut crudely with the chainsaw and sounds nice. 😊 The stand it was on was also macrocarpa slabs but they fared less well with wood borer beetles in residence. Every time I used the stereo there would be a small pile of wood dust on the equipment below.

Hendrix just checking the matrix codes on this record's dead wax, on his 401...

I don't think I can recall seeing a Thorens TD-226 before:

Another TT I've not seen before - YAMAHA GT-2000L A Japanese domestic model. Yamaha's 'GT' series means 'Gigantic & Tremendous' (I believe)
