I think it would fit nicely in my SL1000 base!

To me, that Technics magnesium tonearm finish & style bears a passing resemblance to the stainless steel Fidelity Research FR64.

i'm surprised the sl1000r was shown with the new stainless steel glanz and not technics' own arm.

I see... the Glanz is, I believe, indeed a SS arm of huge Effective Mass, like the FR64/66 - ie ~30gms

not for your your wobbly old linn unless you want it to lean to one side. back in the day a sota sapphire with fr64fx auditioned to replace my souped up linn. it didn't get the job.

Never had a 64fx, but I believe that it was lighter weight, possibly with alloy armtube, ~20gms Effective Mass.

auditioned in my home system. good old manawatu tv and sound lent me the sota and a well-tempered for a three-way shoot-out with my linn.

Ivor designed the LP12 to win such shoot-outs

the lp12 with acrylic mat and torlyte mods made the sota sound like it was playing backwards. stock well-tempered thumped both bouncy tables

Yes I could've (should've?) bought a WTT after Soundline loaned it to me for a weekend in the late 80s. On the WTT silicone floating tonearm, the Koetsu Rosewood sounded like I've never heard it since.

agreed ! that was the very cartridge i used, a rosewood/red i bought from mtv and sound a few years earlier. a super sweet example, it sounded nice than the not much cheaper black and a lot nicer than an onynx with a vdh stylus (awful!).

One of my friends in Melbs used a WTT for, wow, decades now. One day I went to his house and noticed that the platter had leant to one side, towards the motor, and was looking very precarious. As it was left on almost all day, every day, the grub screw bearing points in its unique four point bearing had worn significantly and needed replacing. From memory the bearing had two contact points at the top towards the motor, and another two at the bottom towards the right side of the TT. The spindle was held in place by belt tension from the motor, which reduced bearing chatter to minimal levels. Classic design, but keep those grub screws adjusted!

yes seen that before. the other thing that affects all nz assembled wtt (denco chch made the plinths) is that the sticky pads between each plinth layer softens over time, resulting in more leaning as the layers go out of alignment. my 30yo example (which i still tend to regularly) maintained bearing integrity but suffered from a bit of the second affliction.

Long time ago (30+yrs ) in a place and life far far away, I had to set up a Sapphire with an FR-64 arm.. it was bloody heavy so it was possibly the S. I never felt it was a particularly happy combination, though it did sound good as I recall. But, on that saggy suspension I remember thinking at the time this was a daft mix, but the boss wanted to shift both pieces so it was dutifully set up. It did disappear from the shop, but I never knew where it went.

I would have liked to put a WTT onto a plywood base. Get rid of the mushu fibre-board + gooey layers. Maybe along the lines of some of the later WTT models.
