Steve Guttenberg is VERY impressed with these affordably-priced, Klipsch 'bookshelf' loudspeakers. " I was blown away.....It's goosebumps-city when you listen to this speaker! " US$550 / NZ$1599

To test the sound quality potential of this l'speaker, Guttenberg hooks them onto a $40K system.... " It doesn't sound like a $550 speaker. It sounds...amazing! "

DARKO too, is quite taken by the Klipsch RP-600M: " for listeners who prioritise clarity & dynamics" " efficient & easy to drive... low powered amplifiers... people who like tubes" " very alive at low volumes... you don't have to crank it up" " I might buy them, I really like them!"

We own the KLIPSCH RP-160M which appear to be identical in every way - including specs - to the new KLIPSCH RP-600M. I've been banging-on for ages about how these speakers are the answer for low-power, tube-amp owners with at least 5-10w at their disposal. For anyone wondering, my 1.5W TRANSCENDENT SE-OTL also delivered nicely with these speakers, but only at normal speaking volume. Trying to extract increased volume on the KLIPSCH RP-160M risked clipping the amp and frying the drivers. So, not an ideal partner for the lowest flea-powered SETs. But 5W gets them going and10W delivers party volumes! Anyone else tried these speakers?

I managed a listen with a friend to the RP600M at a Melbourne dealer last week and also to the Kef LS50, driven by a nice Marantz receiver. Very interesting! The LS50 first; it had great transparency and lovely vocals, far nicer than their little brother Q350s which I auditioned previously for the TV system. You could hear right into the soundstage and they had ‘bloom’, that rare transparency that draws you in to the sound. Then the Klipsches were put on; first thing was the volume, they were twice as loud at the same volume control setting, the hallmark of a very efficient speaker. After re-setting the volume about the same it was apparent they weren’t quite as open through the mids but sure had exciting dynamics the little Kefs could do with a bit more of. The mids are good enough though, and they are very revealing on the top end. Not excessive and shouty like some Klipsches of yore but cohesive and clear. I think they would do well in a room with compromised or live acoustics as I liked how they partly aim the top end at you, which means you can hear the recording accurately. Which one could I live with? Either one for different reasons. But the heart says Klipsch. The memory of their liveliness sticks in my mind. Also that I have a valve SE 211 amp with 30 watts output that would be a good match with them. Back in the UK now. Hmmm, so which speaker? I’ve been looking at replacing my Focals as they are a great speaker but in my new small room there are a few problems. You sit too close to them which makes them sound a bit less integrated between the mid and tweeter. The bass is boomy in the small room and closing off the ports makes them too light down there, and highlights the disintegration between the mid and tweeter at close quarters. I have a shortlist of speakers that includes the Klipsch and Kef above, Quad 2805 electrostatics, small Magneplanars (which I’ve owned before), Mark Audio Alpair 11s in quarter wave boxes, and Manger units. Also my favourite very costly speaker, the German Physiks Unlimited Mk 2. I’d need to put the full range Mangers in a box as they are just drivers and need a woofer to fill in the range below 200Hz. I like how most of the speakers above have accurate impulse response (not sure about the RP600s though) which would make the mids and top end ok to listen to at close quarters. They are all small speakers which would mean the bass would be better in a small room. What do you think??

They’re £599 here. To import them from US Amazon the cost would be about £564 ($503 + $232.47 shipping and import cost). So you save a little. Richer Sounds are listing them at £625. They’re still excellent value.
