Features: - amplification, DAC, Bluetooth (+ TOSLINK, 3.5mm Aux, Ethernet inputs)
- bi-amped co-axial new, smaller Uni-Q driver
- DSP crossover
- supports audio resolution up to 24bit/192kHz
- KEF Control app - allows you to 'profile' the sound to suit your room characteristics
NZ$ 1999 - 2199 per pair. Smaller & 30% cheaper than the KEF LS50 wireless. WHAT HI-FI: " A neat, compact and entertaining all-in-one system of rare sonic quality " DARKO Audio: " Absolutely bloody amazing! " Arguably, the most interesting part of the LSX is its rear panel - ie its connectivity....

The KEF LSX is an interesting piece of equipment - more than a loudspeaker. Or even just an active loudspeaker... As John DARKO explains, the LSX has the versatility to give you high-quality sound in modern 'real world' situations, ie. wirelessly anywhere around your abode (or workplace, or even outdoors, if you have power connection) & then use the KEF Control App settings to tailor the in-built DSP's bass/treble tonal balance for a degree of 'room-tuning (& save custom profiles), to suit awkward placements that the household or social event might demand - eg. on a shelf, a cabinet, in a corner, or in a hard-surfaced and/or hifi-unfriendly room space. I see that the Control App even has some ability for 'phase correction'. Also of course, unlike the bigger KEF LS50 Wireless, the LSX does not require tethering the 2 speakers together with ethernet cable. The latest (2019) firmware update allows streaming using AirPlay 2 (music or say TV reception), in addition to Android via Bluetooth apt-X. The LSX is compatible with Roon (new), as well as Tidal, Qobuz & Spotify Connect. NZ price - NZ$1499- ~2000 (varies)

Stereophile (Herb Reichert) gave the KEF LSX a more critical audiophile once-over in April... " Fine detail and sharply focused images were the most conspicuous aspects of the LSX system's sound... All I could ask for was more strong energy in the mid-bass and a greater sense of macrodynamics. Lack of force and dynamic expression were the LSX system's prime failings. " However.... " The LSXes sounded pure and resolving. Detail was always exceptional, bass always clean. Soundstage mapping was top shelf. If you've been contemplating going wireless, or already have and want to move up that food chain, KEF's LSX system might be a perfect way to maintain your sophisticated audiophile mojo while embracing Hi-Fi WiFi Coolosity. Highly recommended. " John Atkinson measured & auditioned the KEF LSX just last month: " ... sweet top octaves...accurate stereo imaging...low frequencies were lightweight, however... I fell in love with these beautiful little speakers. "

Another endorsement for the KEF LSX Wireless from HI-FI+'s Alan Sircom: " The joy of the KEF LSX is that it’s an Everyman loudspeaker, and it isn’t just designed to be some kind of audiophile-creation machine.... If I was dumped on a desert island with only a pair of KEF LSX to keep me company, I’d be fine with that… that’s how good they are. " US$999 / pair.
