For their 40th anniversary, VPI have announced the VPI HW-40 Direct Drive Turntable, an updated (& less costly) version of their Direct Drive Signature TT ($30,000) from 2014.
Priced ~US$15,000 I believe & limited edition production of 400 turntables (400 x DD motors have been commissioned).
- JMW-12 Fatboy Gimbal new design tonearm (with concealed wiring).
- Wired with Nordost Reference Wire
- New VTA Base 'on-the-fly' fine adjustment.
- Heavy aluminium top plate chassis with solid wood sides.
- Dustcover included
- Internally built-in Circuitry and Power
The DD motor is very costly apparently:
" The HW-40’s motor has unique iron-less coil assembly avoids the use of magnetic materials. Combined with overlapping V-shaped coil construction, the HW-40 motor eliminates the cogging that accompanies traditional Direct Drive motors. "
