One of the negative features often aimed at removable headshells is the possibility of the connecting joint allowing some movement or loss of precision. To help negate this I always remove the little O ring that is fitted on the joint so that the coupling is metal to metal and ensure it is tweaked up nice and tight. That way the headshell and tonearm are more likely to act as one unit. Cheers

Some tonearm designers (Fidelity Research come to mind) advise using a thin rubbery washer provided with their headshells. Sometimes it depends on the tonearm design, whether the added 'decoupling' is advantageous or not. As usual, the test is in the listening.
