Lost when Impulse Records lost or dumped the unreleased tapes from the 1963 session/s.

Seems to be available in 1-CD version, 2-CD (80 mins including alternate takes) & 2-LP vinyl ($35.99)

I'm told that the cardboard sleeve style CD packaging of the 2-CD set is underwhelming, but I have it on good authority (from a Jazz enthusiast) that the music is 'superb'.
The LP packagings looks possibly better.

However Analog Planet is less impressed.

With all due respect to the obviously talented & precocious Mr Liu, I would defer to say Downbeat magazine when it comes to the music.

And, a more in-depth 'inside story' from Jazz Times.

Me, I'm no Jazz nor Coltrane authority but I hope to hear the dble CD next week.

I can't believe its been nearly a month since I got this on vinyl, and I've only played it a couple of times (and that's no indictment as to its quality, more a reflection of how much quality music I've recently been listening to and how little quality time there's available to do so).

As a relatively new jazz fan (and in fact spent my first 40 or so years despising it!), I really enjoy these lost takes. Like Owen, I'm no expert. But I know what I like and what I don't like, even if I don't know why.

And this I like.
