I always wondered what the fuss was about Stax, but hadn't owned any before. I recently purchased an older model with energiser and now I know. Wow!
The bass makes almost any other headphone I've owned sound somewhat muddy and indistinct in comparison. Sure, there is some obvious SS dry/hardness compared with the lovely valve Mapletree amp I owned some time ago, but it's just so involving regardless. I guess it's a little less fleshed out, more like the Grado GS1000s I owned in the past and miles away from the Hifiman Planars and even Q701s I've been using more recently. The amount of detail the Stax combo let through is phenomenal.
I think I'm most definitely a Stax guy after finally taking the plunge.
