...however unfashionable or modest or flash, new or vintage Does it need to be working? Maybe... Dual 701 Direct Drive, with Dual tonearm & Shure V15 III LM. Bought this in the 70s, chassis-only, previously in a light wood 'case'. Supplanted by a Thorens TD145 MkII. The 701 still sits here in its box awaiting a decent new plinth.

Come on Owen ! These old classic turntables are for playing music on, not hoarding in cardboard boxes

Bought new 37 years ago. Couldn't afford a Linn.... Has had a couple of new belts and Supex SD900 replaced with Grado Gold. Very rarely gets used these days, I remember the snap, crackle and pop from vinyl in my youth! The rest of my system has had multiple upgrades over the years but this relic remains.

OK, with all this talk of Thoren'zzz going on, here is another, A TD520... successor to the TD126 series and recently refurbished with new leaf spring cables . Originally purchased with the idea of fitting a 12" arm, but after a look and a listen I couldn't bear to do, so it remains original!. and despite my vow of never owning anything Linn.. this crossed my path about 11 years ago for a fair price, so I snaffled it to see what all the fuss was about. An original condition LP12, no funny stuff fitted. Originally fitted with an LVX, it was upgraded to an Akito about 7 years ago. Compared to my TD160/II which also has an LVX mounted, and with the same cartridge..the differences were not light and day. Slightly in favour of the LP12 due to a bit more depth in the bottom end, but not a lot in it really. The Akito was a noticeable improvement... . No other mods are planned at this stage.
Never play Leapfrog with a Unicorn.

Plinth actually walnut ;-). oops - i don't know where i got american oak from. quote from tony's pre-sale description - The arm is a Wand 12", one of the first ones from Simon, The plinth is a solid piece of walnut, oiled and waxed. The feet are from EdenSound in Vermont USA. The plinth and arm go together ... the plinth was specifically built to use with the Wand.

Thorens TD125 II Thanks to Graham for fettling this for me! A very solid sounding turntable, built like a tank and so much more character and charisma than any Project Debut Carbon or equivalent!

Cheers Graham I guess I am also a certified (certifiable?) member of the same Society. Here is my circa 1984 Valhalla LP12, with Ittok LVII, to which I have added an Ortofon 2M Black (thanks to cartridgeguyonline). Had been in storage for near 20 years and is in very good condition. Changed belt, mat, and cleaned and oiled bearing - plays like new i also have a lovely DD Yamaha YP-D9, made by Micro Seiki, a fully manual model, fitted with Denon DL103R. A lovely deck, “should” sell it, but reluctant to part with it!

Somehow I've managed to buy two turntables recently, at opposite ends of the turntable spectrum.

Project 2XPerience, that I've had for well over 10 years. The other turntable I bought recently has yet to be installed in my system. I'd post a pic but someone on this forum described it as fugly

Is it a Pro-ject 6 ? 🧐
I’d wager the Achromat cost more than the 5120! 😳

I think we can safely assume you didn’t spring for one of those horrendously fugly OMA decks so…
Did you pick up that fancy Merrill turntable that was on TM? Very nice!

As an aside, doing a curiosity search on "Merrill" in TM, I found it almost impossible, not obvious at all, to search expired listings. It used to be much simpler - I dislike their new interface. But finally I found it, buried down in "advanced search". (and presented in the old interface, yay!)
(and yes, Citroen, I think in this case the add-ons after the ? are necessary! ;=}) (It works - I hope, at least for me - does it for others?)
Out of my league, but glad to have scratched the curiosity itch.

Took me forever to find the search expired listings too. I went to My Trade Me tab to find the old interface.
