I'm still trying to process this from Dave Wilson (according to Fremer).... " Speed is not a main arbiter of quality; it's just a characteristic . . . It's about time; it's all about time. Flat frequency response, low distortion, extended bandwidth, and accurate timing synchronicity are equally important. It's nice if you have phase coherence, but it is not necessary. What I'm interested in is the synchronicity of the leading edge of each note.... "

sad news indeed. i actually met dave wilson way back in 1994 at the hong kong high end audio show where he oversaw the asian debut of the x1 grand slamm speaker system. impeccably dressed (he enjoyed the finer accoutrements of life like rolexes and ferraris) and a truly nice guy.
two of his greatest recordings

A photo of an old photo from 1988 when Trevor Lees and I visited Dave at his factory in the US. He was a lovely guy, and the design philosophy was engineer it to the max! I still remember when one of his set-up team flew over to Australia to set up the Grand Slams in Sydney at a customer's house. (Trevor was the Wilson dealer at the time.) He then came to the shop in Melbourne to set up the Wilson Watt-Puppies and proceeded to walk around the room while speaking to see where the speaker would sound best. Dave was a perfectionist and taught his staff to be as well. No stone was left unturned in his quest for the perfect speaker. He will be sorely missed!
