It's been a long while since I owned Audio Research & nothing like the functionality of this ARC VSI75 Integrated Amp. With remote control of: - volume/mute - input selection - tube bias checking - tube hours checking - display brightness With only 2 front-end tubes, of course it is a hybrid design, with JFET input stage. 75 watts/ch - US$8,500 MSRP.

Long paddle handle switches I had an engineer pal who was fascinated with ARC's 'cam-ground turn knobs'

Long time since I've had ARC too. Lusted heavily after the GS175 integrated but at $25k AUD it wasnt going to happen..
I too liked their traditional look with the switches, rack handles and knobs. Wasn't quite so fussed on the power amplifiers speaker connection terminal strips !

Dont like that button idea for volume one little bit!! What ever happen to a rotary dial. Maybe its their way of being modern or different...who would know but Im not sure it will fly with prospective buyers

Would Suspect that most buyers will be using the remote ?

Hmmmm, ARC probably are using electronic volume controls, no longer traditional rotary wiper pots. Their Ref preamps in recent yrs have rotary knobs, but I believe they did not fully rotate, but were <LR>, return-to-centre, 'spring loaded' switches. I've never had remote-controlled volume myself, but one can easily get used to it from the comfort your chair. What I DO like, is the Biasing of tubes using the remote handset to select ea tube. Handy on 'fixed bias' amps like this & no risk of electrocution or accidental damage to amp with lid off.
