And I sold my last one (admittedly more than a few years ago) for $300.00, with an SME 3009 arm.

WOW. Amazing price. Maybe its that "fancy" plinth...not!
"beautufully, refurbished 401 from Woodsong Audio In the USA for US$1700, say NZ$2200 landed:"
At current exchange rates USD1700 is about NZD2350. Add postage, say conservatively $100 (prob more like $200), add GST and biosecurity fees of $435. So that brings cost to about another $550.
TOTAL NZD2900 landed.
But yes, I'd much rather have the refurbished one at $2900 than the TardMe one!

The 401 and 301 tt's are obviously very well known and more importantly there are squillions of them around so parts if ever required are no problem. 3k for the one mentioned seems a very high price based on others Ive seen for sale so I expect the seller was a very pleased man! Mine was born in either 64 or 66 and it performs flawlessly every day. Ive not heard of the $435 bio security fee before. Ive imported several audio items from over seas in recent time and had to pay $49 each time

The winning bidder was also involved in the previous 'bidding war'.

Just goes to show the older retro tt sales are well supported. At least with the likes of the 301 and 401 there are loads of them about and they arent complicated with masses of electronics as some of the other Jappas of the same period are. Just think one day the LP12 may command the same status..

Re Lp12. I would suspect that either a mint cond Sondek/Grace/Supex or Sondek/Ittok/Asak combination would be a good investment long term. Theres not many Linns about that havent been molested over the years...

I just fell off my chair after spotting the 5k 401 too... needs to update his listing and make favourable mention of its similarities to the Pioneer PL-6a mentioned in another thread if he wants to achieve that kind of money! 😂🙄
