and a CAL delta sigma CD, NuVista amp ? Could be an interesting table. Not sure about the arm/cartridge match up though ?

Yes, I spotted that Aura yesterday and wondered who owned it. Is he a member here?
I wonder how it sounds compared to the Aura/SME he has.
Seller did have a Wilson Benesch Act Two for sale ($1950?) about 6 months ago. Not sure what a One is worth.

Would suspect most of the value in the package is in the arm ?

cooksferry - my guess is that an idler drive likely would give you more 'bass weight' (or at least bass punch) & possibly more of the 'exuberance' - both of which you mentioned previously. The tonearm, I have not heard a Wilson Benesch - but I believe it's a high quality construction, a unipivot (I like them). At the end of the day, it could be swapped out for another. One reviewer I see rated an Act 0.5 as better than a Graham 2.0.

Biggest issue maybe parts availability for the table if needed. After a quick search I'm guessing that they don't have the following of other similar tables like the Garrads.

Hi Cooks, here's something you can research for us all... elpj.com/ - I wonder if anyone in NZ/in our DL community has/heard one? As I've noted to you, don't be tempted by all the old TT stuff, I've a 'gut' feeling this one may be something special... so tai-ho until the summer!

The G99 is a fantastic Lenco, idler drive, parts readily available, including but not limited to:
1) Bearing Upgrade 2) Idler Wheel upgrade 3) Platter Upgrades 4) Plinth upgrades
It does not (as you can see) have an integrated arm which means that you can fit any arm you please. A modern arm is where you really reap benefits, I'd suggest Vic's Terminator arm or perhaps an RB 250 type.
The sound is typically Lenco, and is equivalent to the Garrards.
For maintenance, keep the bearing oiled and regularly checked and you are good.
I'm biased, I've built 4 Lenco decks and 2 Garrard decks - I like them!!!!

So is this Goldring basically a Lenco by another name?

www.hembrow.eu/personal/goldring88.htmlI'm no expert on these but I think so. Lenco was originally Swiss, then became Dutch-owned. Goldring is British & I copied this info off the net: Lencos were sold under several brand names and the model numbering system isn't entirely logical. In continental Europe they just went under the Lenco brand name with L-xx model numbers. Goldring was the UK importer so they had a Goldring-Lenco badge and GL-xx model designations (note the addition of a G), except for the G88 and G99 which were UK only Goldring designs based on the Lenco drive train. Leak and Goodmans also sold some of the GL-xx models in the UK under their own brand names. Bogen and Benjamin sold them in the United States and the odd Sony badged deck is not uncommon.

So you reckon that the table on TM would be better than my RPM10? Unfortunately I dont have room for two TT.

Post by Owen Y on Jul 4, 2017 16:30:17 GMT 12
Unfortunately never have listened (or seen) an RPM10. Is yours a pre-magnetic bearing, pre-magnetic feet version? What is your feeling about the sound of the RPM10? My present TT is idler drive & that is the fundamental difference I perceive here. Taking into account your comments about 'bass weight/punch' & 'exuberance', my feeling is that idler drive could fit the bill. It is not a new TT & may need a look over by a service technician. However, it comes fitted in an apparently nice plinth. The tonearm is one of WB's early models but it is a respected brand I believe & if in good order, should be (i) decent sounding (ii) worth a good amount of $$ & could be swapped out if necess for something like a Rega RB or such. No experience with WB tonearms either but unipivot toneames IME have a nice HF tone in particular, that is easy on the ear. My gutfeel only. (Edit: My present TT is 'rim' drive.)

Mine is the original version with the magnetically assisted platter but doesn't have the magnetic footers. If I'm honest with myself the Project is probably fine for my use and possibly more importantly, my room which presents all sorts of obstacles to prefect sound. There's basically nothing much to go wrong with the RPM10 , it's a pretty simple design and would probably out last me with the odd belt replacement. I do like the fact that it handles both a nice nice heavy centre weight and my outer rim weight when handling dished or warped lps. That's something I now consider a must in any future TT I might own. After owning it for a number of years there's a little itch to try something else.

Of course, if funds allow & depending on final price, such a 2nd TT could be purchased & auditioned at leisure - before deciding which to keep.

Hey, just like to confirm that Goldring did sell rebadged Lenco models. So, yes, it's a Lenco.

I just wonder what his reserve is for this. cooksferry make a bid now so that when it closes and if it doesn't sell we will at least know what his reserve price was. Or bid until you reach his 85% value.

Quite surprised that the TT attracted nil bids. Seemed to be a lot of people watching the auction.

Why surprised? You were interested but didn't bid. Others probably felt the same as you.

Sat with my finger on the button till the end but couldn't quite convince myself to bid. Thought with over 50 on the watch list some one would have had a crack. I've been exploring other options over the last week that in the end proved to be more appealing.
