Darko continues his series on why standalone Digital Audio Players (DAPs) are becoming obsolete. This time, a cellphone that is good enough to not require an add-on DAC appendage or streaming receiver... The LG V30 featuring: - 64Gb internal storage - microSD card slot for memory cards of up to 2TB - Android OS that can enable streaming services such as Tidal, Qobuz, Spotify, SoundCloud et al " All features considered, there are likely better flagship smartphones on the market. But when it comes to sound quality, rivals are all but non-existent. " " ....it’s the only smartphone I’ve heard to date that pulls up alongside the DragonFly Red-assisted Xiaomi. Makes a lot of sense to me.
We all carry our phones and to add another player is just a hassle. I don't use my Fiio x7 much these days even if it sounds better.

Interestingly, I no longer use my ipad (gifted to me), I find a pocketable phone does it all & runs faster.

Darko reports from IFA 2018 Berlin on LG's latest LG G7 One 'audiophile' smartphone: " a pseudo-flagship smartphone with a Snapdragon 835 processor, a notched 6.1-inch/1440 px touchscreen and super loud in-built speakers....
...if the new model sounds as good as the V30 – and we’ve no reason to expect it won’t – then LG has given us another smartphone that out-performs the streaming-capable Sony NW-ZX2 on sound quality and every Astell & Kern on functionality. " Price still to be announced. Also aptX Bluetooth capability.

Xiaomi - I see that the Chinese Xiaomi electronics brand (also known as 'Mi'), reportedly the largest smartphone manufacturer in the world, is opening a dedicated brand store at Auckland's Sylvia Park mall "early in Nov". " The new store will sell electric scooters, robot vacuum cleaners, wearable tech, home automation, appliance and lifestyle products... " " Mi smartphones grew by 88 per cent last year."
