This started when Leak Stereo 20 amp blew a fuse - arghh, another troubleshooting job. I'd always planned to have one of those Dim Light Bulb Testers for hooking up your suspect device in series to check abnormal current draw. However these days, incandescent bulbs are getting hard to find. Clarry suggested one of these cheap Chinese "AC Current & Voltage LED Displays".... Accuracy? I could measure it against my Fluke true rms multimeter, I guess.

It comes with a little current-measuring pick-up coil like this (internet pic)....

If I put a 3-pin plug on one end + a 3-pin socket on the other, then it can be inserted in series with the DUT (Device Under Test )....

A wire connector block, hot glue the coil in the corner, cable grommets, hook it all up....

It works! Our kettle jug draws 8.5 amps. (Unusually low mains volts today.) Now for Leak Stereo 20....

I note that the meter measures down to only around 25vac, before the display drops out. Low current reading also, seems to be limited to 0.1A minimum.
