Hi guys
Bit of advice please.. Ive recently had my Dynavector XV1s in for surgery at Soundsmith so to keep it from a repeat visit I was a bit concerned about bumpy records. I have a 401. Looking maybe at a clamp of some sort. Solely for keeping record bedded down. Thank you in advance.

A "bumpy" record will unlikely be "unbumpy" with a record clamp, or weight in a lot of cases. Unless its bowled and then it will only work on one side.
Either get a record flattening machine, or an outer ring weight with your clamp/weight if you're trying to flatten warped records.
I use a weight +/- clamp to bind a flat record to the platter, not to flatten it.

I dont have any really wavie records but a clamp will surely help things in the long term.

Check out the Michell Record Clamp. It has a simple but ingenious method of reducing warps. Only for minor warps though as it is not a complete solution.

Periphery ring clamps, are another solution for record warps.

cooksferry does your outer ring clamp have much "play", or is it a snug fit with no movement? My new turntable's outer clamp is not as snug as I would like, and can move oh so very slightly. I think a very thin layer of tape might solve the problem.

I think a very thin layer of tape might solve the problem. I think it Varies slightly from lp to lp depends on final trim. I've never found it a problem. I've had a couple of lps on Three Black Feathers label that wouldn't fit it, a couple of mm too big. I don't use it all the time, only on noticable dishes or warps.

It seems slightly too loose on nearly all records. And to my mind could throw off the centricity balance. I really shouldn't obsess over these things!

Forged bronze, with an O-ring, "A damping inlay is inserted in the ring body to tune the resonance". RRP US$850!!!

Sounds as fancy as the VPI ring.
Potential cartridge killers !

Seems like a common warning.
Is that from the ring hitting the cartridge because it protrudes out a bit?
Or because you might put the stylus on the ring edge instead of the run in groove?

I know with my outer ring I have to be careful with some carts and placement. The Dyna with a long shank is ok but the mono AT cart with a short shank buried away under the body was a bit tricky. Care was needed or the edge of the ring would catch the edge of the cart body and slide it out a few mm onto the first track. Not ideal but once done lesson learned.

All of the above, especially if you manually cue and are prone to clumsiness.

Added a layer of tape and now its a nice snug fit.
But after my recent event, I think I'll just use it for those with minor warps.
