Standing in The Shadows of Motown (2002)
A recent showing at a private gathering reminded how fine & fun this doco is.
About the dozen or so Motown session musicians known as the Funk Brothers, in Detroit from 1959-72.
They say that these dudes have "played on more number-one hits than the Beatles, Elvis Presley, the Rolling Stones and the Beach Boys combined."
On hits by Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, The Supremes. The Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, Diana Ross, Martha & the Vandellas, The Miracles, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Smokey Robinson, Jackie Wilson....
If somehow you haven't seen it, you can watch it in entirety on Vimeo, the sound is decent, essential viewing:
My highlights - Bootsy Collins, Joan Osborne, Chaka Khan.
