Reading a thread on another forum concerning record cleaning and I'm finding it amusing just how far some in our hobby go when cleaning a lp. I'm not talking about the usual spin through a RCM or ultrasonic tank but deep diving with pre washes, soaking, cleaning, rinsing...more like a cycle through a washing machine. There have been a couple of post also commenting on how different wash formulations affect the sound on playback. Wash A dulls the top end while wash B makes the bass muddy etc, really.
Anyone here willing to confess to multi stage cleaning on each lp, sometimes before each play or hearing differences in sound.
I'll confess to not being particularly anal about cleaning over the years. I've always cleaned obviously dirty records and since getting the Project Vac I do run any lp not previously cleaned through a cycle and fit a new inner sleeve, but that's it.
