Mr. Wong, do you know something about the next hipster revival fad the rest of us don't? Ought we all be investing our hard earned on high end laser disc gear and amassing collections for pennies on the dollar to later be converted into filthy lucre as Be-Cardiganed Bearded Ones in their hordes lay down fat stacks for yet more obsolete technology??

Must be the case, Mr Heathen. You couldn't give those things away last time I saw one.

seriously, except for a handful of titles that were never released on dvd or bd, laserdisc is a waste of time for most people

No I dont think so. What he is keeping schtum about is the fact that back in the day these were highly regarded as CD transports for reasons I cant quite remember. IIRC the top Theta transport was based on a pioneer laserdisc mech ?

so much speculation haha basically no one wants to buy my laserdiscs so while i'm stick with them i might as well have one last look.
companies like theta and msb used ld transports (pioneer, philips, panasonic) as they offered better disc handling (the huge motor and clamping systems designed to spin a 12in laserdisc would have no trouble with a 5in cd) and were easily obtained off the shelf.
some early dvd players also made good transports (eg. sony dvp-s7000, dvp-s7700).
an early panasonic model was also one of the earliest ways to playback 96-24 digital audio.
