Hi, looking at a couple of online purchases from RG. They give the grading on all items as VG/VG. anyone familiar with RG and their grading system I'd appreciate your thoughts.

Hey cooks,
I used to buy from them fairly regularly. Didn't take too much notice of their grading tbh, but I've had some great scores from there. Condition wise all have been good playable copies, some of the older stuff can be a bit scuffy, but usually clean up well enough. They are not the best at listing the pressing and information on labels etc so sometimes a bit pot luck, but as I said I've been very happy with my purchases online.

My understanding of the RG grading system is that once a used record is cleaned and examined and is of acceptable condition, it is listed as VG/VG ( record/cover ) and added to the website with a price. Any that don't reach this level are simply placed in the bargain bins with a category ranging from A - D and priced accordingly. These bargain category records are not listed on the website so you must go diving and make your own assessment. I have bought many records from RG in both categories and have been generally happy with my purchases, however I always do a trial play on the turntables provided for this purpose.

from past online purchases their grading is ... relaxed.
an ex shouldn't have the previous owners name on the cover.

I have bought s/hand in store only, never online, sorry, but.... Have had to take the odd one back however (changed mind, occasional noisy record....), they have a 2 week return policy with 70% s/h price refund - maybe not so attractive if you are posting. All their individually-priced s/h records come with new inner sleeves (can't remember whether the bulk/bin-priced ones also do).

A name on the cover wouldn't overly bother me tbh, adds character and all that.
Have only bought online recently and only time I had an issue was with a double LP that had 2 records the same, i.e 2 records of side 1 &2, and no 3 and 4. Were happy enough to refund me in full inc postage and let me keep the record too. So if anyone out there has Todd Rundgrens something/anything with 2 LP's the same we can do a trade...

Ah well, deed done. Bob Seger Mongrel and Seven on the way. Just need Back in '72 to complete the pick of the pre fame releases.

Yes, over night. Mongrel looks to be an earlier US pressing with gatefold and heavy card. Neither cover is mint but appear intact. Will check over the vinyl on Saturday My music room is a bit close to the neighbours for any loud night time music, and how else would you listen to Mr Seger. Can't get enthused about headphone listening at the moment.

Say what! That's blasphemy from my headphone guru... I've been having serious thoughts about cleaning out the rest of my headphone gear, just keeping one amp and pair of phones in the bedroom setup. I'm not spending any time under headphones in the music room any more. Tried an lp last weekend and managed just a couple of tracks before switching back to speakers. Occasionally I think that I've sold the wrong items, missing the Mapletree amp and Grado RS1s now. Certainly if I sold off what I have left it would give a good lead into another set of speakers.
