of course - it's the chch uniform since the quakes. i'd stand out without it! don't want anyone noticing me as i sneak down the inside as they wait for the lights! but they get a really good look as i power away ahead of them when the lights change. well, for the 1st 10m's anyway.
hippy? that's a golf not a kombi.

Ick. Yep, you'll need to fill out a JSA before each ride soon... And what happened to the hippies? They became the boomers and traded in their Kombis for Golfs. Second cousin, once removed... Actually, a bike makes sense in that town. Traffic is absurd. I'll stick to my long board though and keep aging disgracefully!?

that's a fancy pushbike not sure "pushbike" is completely accurate. i do pedal but it is definitely the motor doing most of the pushing. and @johnnyheathen it does make complete sense in this town. quicker than a car and more fun as well. there will be many more on the roads over the next few years.

Tesla is better looking than the new Jag shape. So Owen on your 380km trip to deepest Waikato what was your total time spent charging? I manage a chunk of Auckland's cycleways & there has been an electric bike explosion. We need to do full traffic management now as you don't want to poke a rake into the spokes of a bike whistling along at 35kph

So Owen what is the range on a charge for your leaf? beeman - with 100% charge, our 2013 Leaf will show around 150kms range, depending on the age of the battery/car. And depending on whether aircon etc is used a lot, displayed range is adjusted. The car also calcs range depending your driving style! (Our Leaf has a 24kWh battery, they come out now with 30kWh batts.) After a charge en route to Karapiro.... photo upload

Charging: Fast charge at Te Kauwhata on way down, 30-40mins. Slow charge overnight at Karapiro-Tirau. Fast charge Te Kauwhata, coffee stop on the way back 30-40mins. (15-20min would have been enough.)

There is an article in the on line Daily Mail, listing the 10 cars that depreciate fastest in value. Guess what car sits at #1 spot? Maybe that is why Nissan is brining in a new model looking like a boy racer?

that's what happens when cars become appliances.

Actually, Renault Zoe was 'top' of the list. Nevertheless, EVs are fast-developing technology. It's one reason why used import EV registrations are more than doubling every year in NZ: www.transport.govt.nz/research/newzealandvehiclefleetstatistics/monthly-electric-and-hybrid-light-vehicle-registrations-dec-2016/(Aside from/despite lack of NZ govt meaningful financial incentives/subsidies.) PS. The LEAST depreciating car on the UK market appears to be something like a Toyota diesel or an Audi SUV: www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/picturegalleries/9171166/Top-20-cars-that-depreciate-the-least.html?frame=2179344Such vehicles depreciate 'only' ~45% in 3 years from new, compared with 80% for a new Nissan Leaf. Weigh that difference against fuel savings - say NZ$2k-$3k pa & minimal servicing costs (say $1k pa, incl no consumable parts such as plugs/oils/filters/exhaust, no clutch/gearbox, reduced brake servicing due to regen braking, lower registration cost....). Not to mention fuel imports, overseas debt, environmental/health costs. Of course an EV will eventually need battery replacement - but battery cost is coming down, batt replacement is a simple process & largely renews such a vehicle. On the other hand, an ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicle with its several thousand engine-gearbox components, is un-economic to 'recondition' these days - esp high compression diesel engines. Throw it away. Compared with countries such as Australia, NZ with 80% renewably-generated electricity, is ideally suited for EV use.
