Is anyone these days bothering to rip vinyl records to digital? I'm not a bit digital user, but others in the household will often play from ipod/iphone sources. Or now do you always Spotify/Pandora or download your digital music? Rega Fono Mini A2D - NZ$300

Have played about with ripping vinyl to CD, but at the end of the day simply easier to buy the CD if I really want it on CD. Plus my middle son absconded with the Tascam device I was using to rip the vinyl....

A couple of years ago I bought an ART USB Phono Plus specifically for that purpose but have never got around to using it. Like guitardude I found it more convenient to just buy the CD !

Ive been dithering for yonks about getting a set-up to rip LPs to digital - for the convenience of choosing playlists from the armchair. I've read that the technology nowadays means very minimal sq degradation too. The major downside seems to be the time-factor involved of playing each album/side you want to rip. Not a game breaker, but would make for some very long-term time commitments to recoup your investment? What set-ups are others using to rip vinyl to a server etc, that is cost and sound effective?

Ripping vinyl is a real PITA.
It takes investment in equipment and more importantly time. Sometimes its much cheaper and easier to just buy another copy on vinyl or a digital version.
Unless it can't be replaced as its an OOP version, and no sort of digital version exists (CD or download), I wouldn't bother.

For years I have used LP Ripper (http://www.cfbsoftware.com/lpripper/lpripper.aspx) and a Behringer UCA222 (https://www.rubbermonkey.co.nz/Behringer/Behringer-U-Control-UCA222-USB). And the UCA222 can also be used as a DAC between your PC and audio system.

Hi tonyd - that's a tidy little device, from a respected pro manuf. I like that it's USB powered, so you just need to take line-level ICs from your preamp/amp to computer. Whereas the Rega Fono A2D is a MM phono stage + ADC in one box. It needs mains power & a USB cable to your computer. I believe they both use the same BB PCM290x USB/ADC/DAC chip. Then use say Audacity freeware to control/edit.
