Sounds dangerously like Mindfulness to me

Strangely or not, I seldom close eyes when seriously listening to music. Maybe I should?

I read an editorial in an old Stereophile recently, by John Marks, discussing a similar issue. He was bemoaning the growth of fully wired for sound houses - music in every room. About how music then just became something in the background, comparing the way an audiophile will listen intently, focussed on the performance.
For me, it depends, sometimes it is something stirring to help me through the housekeeping chores, but when I sit down and listen, it is often with dimmed lighting. If the music envelops me I will shut my eyes to help me focus more intently.
Re the OP, it is interesting how a lot of sports stars will cocoon themselves off with their earphones on, presumably listening to music that inspires them. Worked with a high flying lawyer once, travelled in his car with him to Court where he was to defend a complex case. He played the theme music from the superman movie all the way there!

For those old enough to remember: it used to be one of Bob Browns favourite tricks, getting customers to close their eyes while auditioning gear.

what about lights on or off ? I like dim lighting best, I think - just the TT lamp + maybe a corner/table lamp. eg. Steve Jobs-like

I'm a dim lighting guy. Lamps and back lighting all the way. Often I shut my eyes but other times, I find myself watching the tonearm and it's ever so gentle undulations. Mesmerising. I like it best though when I get to the end of a side or an album or whatever and I look around the room, almost in wonder, feeling a little like the cat that got the cream and thinking to myself 'damn I'm lucky to have this'. As for living longer, my spending put a strain on my marriage there for a while... So I'm not so sure?!?
