Any members tried the Expressimo arm weight and if so are they a worth while upgrade. I'm looking at fitting some thing like that to the Project arm. I feel that if the Project arm has a weak point it's in the way the weight is attached to the end stub., While it doesn't move once set it's not exactly locked on. My arm is the first version of the 10c and the later evo arm has a modified setup. I have come across a couple of different options online for under slung weights but the Expressimo name is one that I've come across before. www.expressimoaudio.com/Project.html

Looks nice, v bespoke! Perhaps check if the brass has a coated finish, otherwise it will oxidise - which is OK if you're happy with an 'aged' brass look eventually.

Call me old fashioned but I don't understand the reasoning behind the benefits claimed when using under-slung counterweights. To my way of thinking the counterweight should be centred on the same plane as the pivot point. IMO having it below this pivot point will exaggerate the self centering effect of the tonearm which will put additional load on the cantilever in the vertical plane. I could of course be completely wrong and the wonderful benefits being claimed may be true !!!!!!

I think the 'moment of inertia' (ie self-centreing) is no worse regardless whether the counterweight is above or below, but... I have mentioned concerns about exaggerated VTF variations when a c/wt is underslung, eg. riding warped records & when using VTF scales not level with stylus. However, I think the improvements reported by users is due more to the way that the Expressimo c/wt is designed with a tight Delrin sleeve & is grubscrew locked I think - rather than the relatively loose fit of the plastic threaded, non-locked Pro-ject c/wt cooksferry - it may be worthwhile experimenting (later) with some extra mass (say blutak) on the headshell which will move the c/wt out also, both increasing Eff Mass of the v lightwt Pro-Ject carbon tonearm for those low compliance cartridges (Hana SL, XX2). ie. Lower Resonant Freq, ensuring good bass power.

Once you've decided on c/wt, then experiment with blutak to determine the gms needed to get the c/wt where you want it. Further out towards the end of course, does mean that the c/wt stub needs to be structurally sound. Somewhere I saw that Expressimo offer different c/wt mass options to suit different cart wts...?
