Apparently not that well! Of the 6 tracks, I chose 4 wav, 1 320kb and I even picked one 128 kbs track I thought it would be more obvious especially between the 128 and wav files. Listening done from computer, Dragonfly Red, In ear headphones. My excuse is that I reckon the Dragonfly Red is making the mp3's sound so damn good.

The Melbourne Audio Club tried that a few years ago. The tracks were alternated so that the audience didn't know which was on at the time. It was very hard to pick a difference but eventually picked it. The mp3s had a slight loss of liveliness. But it was quite interesting that the difference wasn't obvious at all!

So how did every else get on with telling the difference? Most of them couldn't pick it, about 80-20% in my estimation. Very easy to not tell any difference as it took me a while too. It would be akin to listening to different mats on your turntable.
