I was fortunate to spend a some time at Audio Reference Co. in Auckland this week. With owner Terry Humphries' kind permission, I'm posting a few pics of some their rather international product range: The pictured system: MAGICO S5 loudspeakers (USA) Driven by VITUS Signature SS mono amplifiers (Denmark) ACCUSTIC ARTS Reference Hybrid Preamp (Germany) EAT E-Glo MM/MC Phono Stage (Czech Republic) MOERCH DP-8 12" Tonearm (Denmark) IKEDA-9TT MC cartridge (Japan) Also on the rack bottom: ELECTROCOMPANIET amplifier (Norway) AYON valve amplifier (Austria) (The turntable was a NZ-made prototype high-end design, not yet released.)

thanks Owen Been a while since I was there. Terry is a very obliging and responsive chap. And you're right: a real Alladin's cave of exotic and desirable gear. AR was the source of my Sanders system - so glad for that! f

I've not visited Terry in Auckland despite him being here for many years but that turntable might prompt a visit to Graham Street (besides I might need to go visit the council too!). I did visit his Hamilton store - brilliant concept. HiFi store with cafe, and art gallery. Music, food and art - what more could you want! Plus two very friendly standard poodles to keep you company.

Chaps - a couple of clarifications: - Audio Reference Co. will be moving to new premises on Lake Road, Devonport, this coming week I believe. (Audio Reference announcement I expect soon.) - The turntable - belongs to the designer & was at Audio Ref Co. only for audition. This finished prototype sample is being shipped overseas & a second sample will be made. (Unable to publish anything more at this time.)

Merrill Williams REAL 101.2 turntable (USA), sitting on an Artesania Audio rack (Spain). Ayon Audio valve integrated amplifier (Austria) on the bottom shelf. The TT features an outer ring record clamp.

Apparently the designer was a squash playing door knob fetishist... As for Audio Reference - a lot of lustful gear on the site but sadly, well beyond the limited balance of this particular poor boy...

Went to AR in their Devonport digs over the Christmas break. I took a brother in tow and we listened to Canton and Magico speakers. He matched my source and amplification as close as possible andlistening room is pretty good. I presently run Triangle Cellos in my lounge and both the Cantons and Magicos had more detail. Overall an interesting and worthwhile experience. Worthwhile in that it told me what I needed to know, namely the voicing of the speakers was ok and the detail and timbrel accuracy was an improvement on what I have got.

Could someone find out if the invitation can be extended to Dark Lantern members too? Hi sub, Audio Reference oner, terry Humphries, has advised me that: " ....its not a StereoNet exclusive event, its an open weekend for my official Devonport showroom opening at which Mark Dohmann and his Helix 1 & 2 turntables will be launched etc. So all welcome on Sat 17th / Sun 18th between 10am - 4pm.
Its mainly intended for audiophiles as the room is not large so room will be a bit limited " Terry's showroom is reasonably spacious, with a tall ceiling, but seating could be limited, so I would get there early. Then repair down to Devonport for an ale & lunch

I'm planning to attend for a bit of a drool at gear I will never afford. It could be an opportunity for some of us to meet face to face at last.
