For me, Denon takes top place. I've owned two of their products, a 3806 7.1 home theatre receiver with HDMI, and a 3930 universal disc player (before bluray).
The manuals for both were so dense and full of tech speak, large tracts were incomprehensible to me! I had to get help in interpreting them, found and downloaded a copy of Batpig's "Denon to English Dictionary & set up guide and FAQ". Seems I am not the only one!
Even the experts were flummoxed by the Denon speak, when for some reason I couldn't get sound out of the 3806 and took it into the now gone EHF outlet in Rotorua, having just moved there. It took them nearly a week to work out how to change input from EXT Out!
A runner up would be the manual for my Oppo 103. I bought it online after first talking via email and on the phone with the distributor. I sought their assurance it would be plug and play, was told there was a bit of programming to do, but "very straight forward". NOT, took me six hours trying to get sound from all channels, before giving up. Rang supplier next morning and was talked through the process, but could not have done it without that assistance.
